Police believe ‘absolute stupidity’ sparked serious ring road truck smash
Police are investigating whether road rage is to blame for a truck crash that left a man fighting for life.
It’s believed a dark-coloured Range Rover attempted to overtake a truck travelling in-bound on the Western Ring Road at about 1pm on Thursday, then braked in front of a truck.
That caused that truck and three others to collide near the Sydney Road overpass at Fawkner.
Acting Assistant Commissioner for Road Policing, Justin Goldsmith, says it appears the driver of the Range Rover acted out of “frustration or spite”.
“It’s absolute stupidity and it’s a lack of respect,” he told Tony Jones, filling in for Neil Mitchell.
The Range Rover left the scene and has not yet been located.
The driver of one of the trucks is fighting for life in hospital.
