True scale of ‘significant’ Medibank hack revealed
The true scale of the Medibank hack has been revealed.
Medibank Private has confirmed every current customer’s personal data, including “significant amounts of their health claims data” has been stolen.
Medibank has four million current customers and is required to hold data from previous customers for seven years, so an unknown number of people who’ve previously held health insurance with the entity are also exposed.
Tech expert Geoff Quattromani says it’s a serious breach.
“By comparison to Optus, this one is the real thing, it’s one that people should be more concerned about,” he told Neil Mitchell.
“It’s your medical history that a lot of people don’t want public.”
