Two men jailed over shocking Phillip Island rape

A Phillip Island man has been jailed for almost 10 years for raping a 15-year-old girl while his friend “egged him on”.

The victim told the court she has been crippled with fear since the 2015 ordeal at the hands of Matthew McKean (pictured) and Ashley Howard.

The pair raped her in a disused car in a Cowes backyard after a night of drinking and smoking cannabis.

McKean, 24, sexually assaulted her while Howard, 23, encouraged the attack.

Judge John Carmody sentenced McKean to at least seven years and four months in protective custody.

While Howard didn’t physically assault the girl, the judge described his actions as equally callous, jailing him for a minimum of five years on rape charges.
