Two women have been left with serious leg injuries requiring surgery after a music festival disaster near Geelong.

Brooke Hallam was at A Day on the Green on Saturday, where heavy rain cut the Crowded House performance short and thick mud led to hundreds of festivalgoers being forced to sleep in their bogged cars.

She was standing in mud waiting for a friend when she was knocked over.

“My feet stayed in the mud and I hit the deck,” Ms Hallam told Neil Mitchell.

She underwent surgery for a broken tibia last night, and has found herself in Geelong Hospital alongside another woman who also broke her leg in similar circumstances at the event.

“She broke her tibia and fibula,” Ms Hallam said.

“I don’t know. I think they need to look at whether they can put woodchips down or something.”
