Uber driver tells of terror after Box Hill North attempted carjacking
An Uber driver who was chased by a gang brandishing a machete and a hammer in an terrifying carjacking attempt in Box Hill North says he has never been so frightened in his life.
Amjal Armani, who grew up and spent time in Afghanistan and Pakistan, said he would never have expected it in Melbourne.
Mr Armani told Neil Mitchell a silver Hyundai blockaded him as he was driving along Middleborough Road at 10.30pm last Thursday night.
The men were fully clothed and brandishing a machete and a hammer, they tried to get into his car.
He managed to flee, but the men gave chase, eventually giving up when he pulled into a nearby service station.
‘As soon as I saw them, I said ‘Ajay you finish, Ajay you die’,’ he said.
‘I have never been so frightened in my life.
‘I grew up in Afghanistan, Pakistan, we saw a lot of problems, this was the scariest thing in my life.’
Mr Armani said he is not sure he will continue driving after the incident.
