Uber finally gets green light in Victoria
Transport Minister Jacinta Allan has dismissed claims the Victorian government has ‘dragged the chain’ on legalising Uber.
Ride sharing is about to be given the green light more than two years after Uber first appeared.
Ms Allan denies the government’s been too slow to act.
‘We needed to make sure changes were fair,’ she said.
Under a radical shake-up, Uber and taxis will set their own fares, with passengers slugged an extra dollar per trip to compensate the taxi industry.
The Government will also buy back taxi licences to create a more level playing field.
