Uber’s new move to attract female and non-binary drivers
Uber has today launched a new feature which allows female and non-binary drivers to turn down male passengers.
The new feature comes as part of a push to give non-male drivers more confidence to drive during the evening.
President of the Ride Share Drivers’ Association of Australia, Rosalina Pirozzi, says only five to 10 per cent of rideshare drivers are female.
“I think women drivers would feel a lot more secure doing the evening peak shifts if they could just pick up female passengers,” she told Neil Mitchell.
“Intoxicated passengers have always been an issue from a driver’s perspective.
“A female driver would feel less likely for their personal space to be intruded with a female passenger on board.”
