The founder of the Australian Road Safety Foundation says Victoria is at risk of a “road safety pandemic” after the Andrews Government revealed it would be taking $3 billion away from the Transport Accident Commission over the next four years.

Tom Elliott said it was “unconscionable” for the government to do so.

“It should be front page news, it really should be,” he said.

Russell White, CEO of the ARSF, said it was “nearly impossible” for the TAC to be able to do the same job with $3 billion less.

The average car registration in Victoria costs $845.90, of which $539 goes to the TAC.

The TAC website says the money is used to fix roads, help reduce the road toll and assist people who are victims on the roads.
