University lecturer says the world could be off the grid in 15 years

Stanford University lecturer Tony Seba says in 15 years petrol, coal fired electricity and other conventional energy sources will be gone.

With self driving electric cars, and solar power grids on homes, it’s not that out of focus. 

Tom Elliott spoke with an expert in energy sources, Professor Iven Mareels, Dean of Engineering at the University of Melbourne.

He says it will take much longer than 15 years – ‘No, far too optimistic. You can’t turn around a big ship like that so quickly.’

Iven told 3AW Drive that it’s a great dream and he would love to see it happen.
