University Square set for major facelift
University Square is about to get a major facelift.
The $8.8 million redevelopment has been ticked off by the City of Melbourne, State Government and University of Melbourne.
Lord Mayor Robert Doyle told Neil Mitchell the area is a ghost town.
Cr Doyle said about 50 trees would need to be removed for the development, but they will be replaced by 250 new ones.
‘Anywhere you can turn asphalt back into green, open space is a good thing for the inner city,’ he said.
