Urgent investigation into claims China is recruiting Australian war pilots

An urgent investigation is underway into claims China has been headhunting Australian war pilots to train Chinese forces.

Director of Strategic Insights Australia, Michael Shoebridge, says it’s “certainly” happened with UK fast-jet pilots already, and it “looks like” Australian pilots have been recruited.

And it’s not against the law.

“It’s not an offence for our former military people to do this. It’s an offence for them to fight in conflicts in another country, it’s an offence to recruit people to serve in other countries, but this is a loophole that needs to be closed,” Mr Shoebridge told Ross and Russel.

“We’ve spent about $10 million training these people and they have some of the most sensitive information that our military possesses.”
