US swim stars including Ryan Lochte lied about ‘mugging’ in Rio, accused of smashing toilet door at petrol station

Police in Rio now claim four US swimmers, including star Ryan Lochte, made up a story about being mugged in order to cover up an incident where they smashed a toilet door at a petrol station.

Brazilian TV has shown what it says is footage of the incident.

The swimmers had originally claimed they were dramatically robbed at gunpoint.

On Wednesday, authorities stopped two of the swimmers from boarding a plane home.

Lochte is already back in America.
