Firefighters bring Laverton North blaze under control

A fire has broken out at a factory near the M80 Ring Road in Laverton, sending thick smoke into the air.

Multiple callers to 3AW Afternoons earlier on Tuesday afternoon reported the fire, which started near Altona-bound lanes of the highway.

“It is very dark smoke,” Dan Velling from the Department of Transport told Shane McInnes.

Fire Rescue Victoria Acting Assistant Chief Fire Officer Darren Brown later told Heidi Murphy on 3AW Drive that the fire was brought under control.
