‘Very spoilt here’: Chief Police Commissioner praises Melbourne while vowing shift in crime strategy
With crime in Melbourne on a rapid incline, the police force has faced significant strains in crime management on our streets.
Appearing on 3AW Mornings, Chief Commissioner Mike Bush assured host Tom Elliott that the force is attracting high-quality recruits to meet the challenge, saying “we’ve got really experienced, capable people.”
Host Tom Elliott challenged the Commissioner to find ways to reduce the administrative load, like the ‘paperwork’ that currently bogs down officers.

Elliott questioned Commissioner Bush about the recent firebombings targeting Melbourne businesses, including nightclubs, restaurants, and barber shops.
Bush mentioned that many of the youth involved are often too “smart” or “scared” to provide information on who hired them, requiring police to rely on gathering digital intelligence and forensic evidence.

Responding to Tom Elliott’s concern that the government and police might be “giving up” on the cities major drug problem, Commissioner Mike Bush asserted that their strategy has shifted toward high-level enforcement rather than abandonment.
“We really want to target those people who are at the top of the chain who are pedaling misery to people and to families quite selfishly to make a profit,” said Bush.
