Anthony Albanese says he’s “concerned” about the prospect of conflict in our region in coming year.

Speaking with Neil Mitchell, the Prime Minister said Australia must “cooperate where we can” with China, “but disagree when we must”.

“I am concerned about the strategic competition in the region. We live in very uncertain times.”

China has labelled the mammoth AUKUS submarine deal a “path of error and danger”, but Mr Albanese says his government’s foreign policy isn’t aimed at drawing the ire of China.

“I have not engaged in any rhetoric aimed at increasing tension,” he said.

“I want good relations but I want good relations based upon our values.”
