An Australian army veteran has spoken out about a terrifying Australia Day weekend encounter.

?Kyle Tyrrell was forced to fight a group of men after they threatened his wife at a beach in Torquay.

The men turned on his wife when she informed them that they might get in trouble for setting up a crab trap in the water.

‘One of them grabbed my wife by the wrist and punched her in the face,’ Mr Tyrrell told Neil Mitchell.

He believes the attack was racially or culturally motivated.

‘At the end of the day (that) doesn’t really matter. My family’s safety was put in jeopardy.’
