Vic Infrastructure unveils new plan to reduce congestion by charging motorists to enter the city

Motorists could be slugged five dollars to enter the city, under a plan to reduce congestion on roads and rail in peak periods.

Victoria’s infrastructure body will today released its 30 year draft plan, making 134 recommendations to grow the state, including a transport pricing scheme.

The North East Link has also been identified as the top road project along with a rail line to the Airport and Outer Metropolitan Ring Road.

It finds The East West Link may be needed in the long term and has recommended planning to ensure it’s not precluded in the future.

Chief Executive Michel Masson says charging people to travel in peak periods would reduce congestion.

‘Transport network pricing, well designed, will play a much greater role in reducing congestion than any other major roads.’

‘It’s definitely part of our key message when we look at the future. Doing things differently will be equally, if not more important than adding new assets.’ ? says Masson.
