Victoria is about to cop “easily” the coldest burst of weather it’s had for the year so far.

And one meteorologist says “all indications” point to an “exceptionally wet winter” across Australia.

A bitter cold snap will arrive in Melbourne on Wednesday, bringing a cocktail of hail, rain, wind and snow for the alpine regions.

Tom Elliott asked Tom Saunders, Sky News Chief Meteorologist, whether it was a sign of things to come.

“I think it’s probably too early to make that forecast,” he said.

“Having said that, all the indications are pointing towards an exceptionally wet winter across Australia, including Victoria.”
