Corporal Cameron Baird was 32 years old when he was killed while clearing a Taliban stronghold in Afghanistan.

In February 2014, he was posthumously awarded Victoria Cross, the highest military honour in this country.

But Cameron was also a bright football prospect and only a serious injury late in his final junior season prevented him from being drafted to the AFL.

As it is, not many people in the military knew much about Cameron’s life outside it, and vice versa.

Now, he is having a book written about his life.

Cameron’s father Doug told Neil Mitchell it’s an ‘extraordinary opportunity’.

‘We’re hoping to tell the story of a young man who turned into an Australian legend,’ he said.
