Victoria Police admits it’s still unsure whether officers have the legal right to check the vaccination status of citizens.

Regardless, they won’t be the ones enforcing rules that mean only fully vaccinated people can attend bars and restaurants.

“That’s not a role for us, at all,” Victoria Police Commander Tim Tully told Neil Mitchell.

Neil asked whether police could ask for proof of vaccination if they were called to a venue where trouble had erupted over entry.

“That’s something that is currently being worked through,” he said.

Commander Tully said police were currently reviewing footage of people celebrating the end of lockdown on Chapel Street.
