Victoria Police slam drug culture at music festivals
Victoria Police has lashed out at music festival goers who continue to ‘gamble with their lives’ by taking illicit drugs.
It follows a string of arrests for several drug-related offences at the Earthcore Music Festival at Pyalong last weekend.
The issue of drugs at festivals has reared its head again following the tragic death of a 25-year-old woman at Stereosonic in Sydney.
But there were also problems at the small Victorian festival.
Police made five arrests for drug possession, detected 11 drivers on drugs and issued two drug diversion notices.
Twelve people were also cautioned for possession of cannabis.
It appears police have had enough.
‘The presence of drugs amongst festival goers is really concerning,’ Inspector Libby Murphy said.
‘I’m amazed that people are willingly gambling with their lives by taking these dangerous substances.
‘We’re aware that some people had to be taken to hospital over the weekend because of drug use.
‘At the end of the day, as a user, you really have no idea what you are putting in your body, and you have no idea what it will do to you.’
