Victoria’s Governor Linda Dessau has been recognised for her service to the community with a Companion in the General Division of the Order of Australia.

On recieving the top Australia Day honour, Ms Dessau told Neil Mitchell she’s grateful for her long career and certainly never dreamed she’d be Victoria’s first female governor.

‘It might sound pretty simple, but I did want to be a lawyer, and I’m very grateful that I was,’ she said.

‘I’ve absolutely loved my career.’

Ms Dessau said she continued to push for a diverse, welcoming community.

‘I think we’ve moved a long way, and I think we are a wonderful community how we’ve melded together,’ she said.

‘You will never hear me say anything other than that we all need to keep working to ensure we all do keep working together.’
