Victoria’s gun crime and the 108% rise in offences
Gun crime is on the rise on the streets, with firearms and weapons offences doubling in Victoria in a four year period.
3AW Mornings drilled down some of the latest figures to be released by police and found a 108 per cent increase in gun crime in the state.
GUN CRIME: In 2010-11 there were 6,922 offences compared to 2014/15 when there were 14,404 offences
It comes after a series of incidents across Melbourne in the last few days, all involving guns.
In Lalor overnight a family escaped serious injury after as many as 20 shots were fired from what’s believed to be a machine gun in an early morning drive-by shooting.
It’s not known why the family was targeted.
On Wednesday night a senior bikie figure was gunned down near his Narre Warren home.
A family was also targeted in a drive-by shooting in Broadmeadows in the early hours of Monday morning while a car was shot at nearby on Sunday night.
