Victoria’s new tourism body looking to bring new major events to the state
Victoria has a new tourism body.
Visit Victoria combines the state government’s major events, tourism and convention centre strategies replacing previous entities Tourism Victoria, the Major Events Corporation and the Melbourne Convention Centre.
Speaking to 3AW’s Neil Mitchell, Chairman of Visit Victoria, Paul Little said there are challenges ahead.
‘I think we need a balanced calender throughout the year…the challenge for our group, our board, is to try and fill in the gaps between major attractions.’
Bringing new theatre and sporting events to the state is an important part of the strategy.
‘We look for the best of the best, if we can bring them here then use those events to attract visitations into the state, then get people to stay longer and spend more, then we’ve really achieved the goal around our boardroom.’
A night Grand Prix is also on the radar.
‘There are infrastructure costs associated with establishing a night Grand Prix but i’m sure it’s a consideration that is still front on mind.’ he said.
