A breakdown of ABS figures reveal Victorian judges and magistrates hand out more Community Corrections orders than any other state.

7200 community corrections orders were issued last year – 40 per cent of the national total.

The Australian reports some of them were for offences including sexual assault, breaking and entering and abduction.

Victims of Crimes Commissioner Greg Davies says police do what they can to get offenders to court.

“There’s a level of frustration that the person they take into court beats them back to the shopping mall once they walk out the door,” Mr Davies said.

“The issue for most victims is, would they have been a victim had the disposition of the court been something other than a community corrections order in the case of their particular offender.”
