The Victorian Alcohol and Drug Association is calling on the state government to decriminalise the personal possession and use of illicit drugs.

3AW Mornings host Tom Elliott pointed to North American cities that had tried a similar policy as examples of why he did not think this was a good idea for Melbourne.

“It’s been a disaster … you end up with certain parts of cities where drug dealers and drug users tend to congregate and those parts of those cities tend to become very unpleasant for other people,” he said.
