Victoria is the ‘home’ of personal trainers in Australia.

But industry insiders have warned it’s creating a ‘rogue’ element that’s putting consumers at risk.

New figures have shown there’s been a 20 per cent drop in the number of Australians starting an apprenticeship in the space of just a year.

But interestingly, those same figures highlighted significant growth in personal training courses.

In September last year, 2600 people were taking part in personal training courses across Australia.

1300 of those were in Victoria.

But Justin, who has been in the industry for 18 years, told Neil Mitchell many of those were taking six-week courses and gaining their certificates online.

‘There’s a massive difference and shortfall between the good and bad in our industry,’ he explained on 3AW Mornings.

‘These courses you talk of, unfortunately, those people won’t even get a look in when it comes to me employing them.’

Neil Mitchell was alarmed by some of Justin’s claims, labelling it ‘dangerous.’

‘That’s why I only employ university qualified,’ Justin responded.

But he said that didn’t stop those people from ‘under-cutting’ and running boot camps independently at far cheaper costs to appeal to clients.

‘There’s a bit of a rogue industry,’ Justin said.

‘It’s quite embarrassing.’
