Victoria to enter seven-day lockdown

All of Victoria will enter a seven-day lockdown from 8pm on Thursday.

Daniel Andrews announced the news at a press conference on Thursday afternoon.

“I can’t tell you how disappointed I am to be here doing this again … but I have no choice,” the Premier said.

He said the short notice was due to the fact a number of cases during Victoria’s last outbreak were transmitted on the night before the state entered lockdown.

Schools will return to remote learning and there will be just five reasons to leave home.

  • To purchase food and other essential items.
  • Exercise (up to two hours, with one other person or members of your household)
  • Compassionate care, caregiving and medical reasons.
  • Authorised work.
  • To get vaccinated against COVID-19.

The lockdown comes after Victoria recorded eight new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday (two of those will be in Friday’s numbers).

Investigations continue into the source of at least two of those cases.

The list of possible COVID-19 exposure sites continues to grow.
