Victoria is reportedly looking interstate for experienced staff to help deal with the state’s youth justice crisis.

But there are more than capable people already in Victoria, according to Pitsa Binnion.

3AW Breakfast spoke with the McKinnon Secondary College teacher, who said she was surprised by the reports.

‘I don’t think we need to look elsewhere,’ she said.

‘Surely we’ve got them in Victoria?’

Ms Binnion said a mixture of tough love and kindness was needed to deal with the issue.

‘In general, unruly youths are really trying to communicate a lot of pain,’ she explained.

‘They’re sad young people that have no sense of belonging and have built no relationships.’
