New hi-tech speed cameras are being trialled as new figures show on average a motorist is fined Victoria every 20 seconds.

By year’s end, motorists will have tipped more than a billion dollars into government coffers through fines in the space of just three years.

The analysis by The Herald Sun shows on average a motorist is done for speeding or running a red every 20 seconds.

The state-wide sting is set to intensify with five new fixed speed cameras are being rolled out across the state. While new hi-tech cameras are currently being trialled, the so called super cams can nab motorists across eight lanes of two way traffic.

The police minister Lisa Neville insists it’s about driving down the road toll not driving up revenue.
