Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has been labelled “out of touch” after she urged people to simply not take drugs following a spate of overdoses at an event in Flemington on the weekend.

Nine people were initially hospitalised with overdoses, with calls growing to introduce pill testing at events for people who attend events with a higher risk of drug taking.

Animal Justice Party MP Georgie Purcell isn’t a fan of Ms Allen’s comments, saying young people’s lives were at risk if attitudes don’t change.

“Those comments (from Jacinta Allan on Tuesday) are completely out of touch,” she told Heidi Murphy on 3AW Drive.

“We know that people take drugs, particularly young people. The longer that we push that narrative, the longer we’re putting (young people) at risk by not offering safer options when they do (take drugs).
