Victorian town makes surprise appearance on top 5 travel list

Ballarat has beaten out Melbourne, Sydney and the Gold Coast to make a prestigious list of the national top five tourist destinations.

Tourism website Experience Oz ranked Ballarat as number five in its top 10 major destinations list this week, following the Whitsundays, Mackay, the Kimberley and Cairns.

Ballarat Cr Des Hudson spruiked the town’s positives to Tom Elliott on 3AW Drive.

“An hour and ten minutes from Melbourne and an hour and ten minutes from the beach, we actually are the full package,” Cr Hudson said.

Tom questioned the Councillor over the town’s infamously frosty weather.

“Ballarat’s weather is gold, we have it all,” he replied.

Former Ballarat resident Malcolm begged to differ.

“The best part about it was leaving it,” he told Tom.
