Victorian town most likely to flood today braces for deluge

Emergency services are door knocking up to 700 homes in Rochester — the town in the state’s north expected to be among the worst hit by the downpour today.

A total of 44 millimetres of rain fell in the town yesterday, and up to another 100 millimetres are expected today.

The Campaspe River, which is expected to peak on Saturday, runs through the middle of the town.

“I’ve just been speaking to some locals who were here in the 2011 floods and they’re really worried it’s going to be the same thing,” Izabella Staskowski said.

“They’re concerned there are going to be businesses flooded, they’re concerned the town is going to be cut off, and there’s concerns for about 700 homes at the moment as well.”
