A record amount is owed by fine dodgers in Victoria.

The outstanding figure reached $1.8 billion dollars owed to the Sheriff’s Office last financial year.

The fines include penalties for running red lights, speeding or not voting.

Residents in the City of Casey have accrued the biggest total fined debt of $137 million dollars.

Sheriff Brendan Facey tells 3AW Breakfast some people just refuse to pay fines.

‘We are reminding people that there are really serious and drastic consequences for not paying your fines,’ he tells Ross and John.

‘You can have your car suspended, your license cancelled. That can lead to some pretty drastic action, someone could lose their job.’
