Victorians are predicted to spend more than $780 million in just 24 hours in Boxing Day sales this year.

While much of the spending will be done from the comfort of home online, some keen shoppers have lined up all night outside department stores in Bourke Street.

David Thomas, CEO of David Jones CEO told Tony Jones there was a huge rush when stores opened this morning.

“We opened 7am with a bang, and had people lined up for hours,” David said.

“One lady has been here since 1am, she’s been the beneficiary of a $500 voucher so she was ready to go.

“They are big sales, there’s big sale items, we’re excited customers are here shopping now.”
