Victorians urged to join ‘powerful’ app that’s saved 50 lives since 2018

Victorians who’ve got an up to date first aid qualification are being urged to sign up for an app which has saved 50 lives in the state since 2018.
When a triple zero call is made and an ambulance dispatched, the GoodSAM app sends an alert to nearby CPR trained people who can help until paramedics arrive, and informs them where the nearest defibrillator is.
There are currently 15,000 responders registered on the app.
But Labor Member for Frankston and Parliamentary Secretary for Police and Emergency Services, Paul Edbrook, who recently helped revive a seven-year-old girl, wants to boost that number drastically.
“In Denmark they’ve got 100,000 GoodSAM responders. Imagine the lives we could save if we had 100,000 Victorians ready to commence CPR and save somebody,” he told Heidi Murphy, filling in for Tom Elliott.
“You don’t need to be a paramedic to save a life, you just need to be over 18, download the app and be willing to give CPR if required.
“It’s so powerful.
“Every minute without CPR, a patient who is down, their chances of survival fall by 10 per cent.”
