Victoria’s laws are again in the spotlight after it emerged a youth offender who crashed a car into a family had been bailed eight separate times.

The incident on April 20 in Berwick led to a police chase, with it recently being revealed that the driver of the car had been released on bail just 20 hours before re-offending.

“Unfortunately a lot of the reforms (to the bail laws happen after) high profile cases,” Gallant Law criminal defence lawyer Jonathan Brancato told Tom Elliott.

“First and foremost, the rehabilitation of this young offender is a primary consideration if he’s ultimately convicted and sentenced.”
