New data reveals Victoria’s speed cameras have netted more than $330 million in fines, despite two years plagued by lockdowns.

The cameras at the intersection of Rosanna Rd and Darebin St in Heidelberg caught the most drivers, with more than 53,000 infringements in the 2020/21 financial year. The cameras at that intersection netted more than $11 million during that period.

The second most lucrative cameras are at the intersection of Terminal Drive and Centre Road at Melbourne Airport, and third are the cameras at Warrigal and Batesford roads in Chadstone.

According to the government’s Cameras Save Lives website, there was a 12.9 per cent increase in total infringements for speeding and red-light offences in 2020/21, compared to 2019/20.

Managing editor of CarExpert.com.au, Paul Maric, says it’s a surprising figure.

“We had a year full of lockdowns, we weren’t able to drive very far … we still had over 200 fatalities on the roads,” he told Ross and Russel.

“It really shows you that people just are not concentrating on the roads.
