Victoria’s most popular baby names of 2018 revealed

Victoria’s most popular baby names in 2018 have been released.

For a boy, Oliver is the most popular name for a third straight year while for a girl, Olivia comes out on top.

Director and registrar at the registry of Births Deaths and Marriages Victoria James Lawson told 3AW Mornings the range of names have changed in the last 50 years.

“Despite the diversity in names across the spectrum, the top male and female names are very similar,” he said.

“There’s a lot more diversity of names now compared to 50 years ago – for the boys, there were 507 Oliver’s this but in 1968 there were 1,408 David’s to make the top.

“There’s a much bigger spread of names now.”
