Video: Brazen mail thieves raiding Elwood letterboxes

Brazen thieves are raiding suburban letterboxes – and their victims often don’t even know they’ve been stung.

3AW listener Steve only became aware of his Elwood letterbox being raided because the man who broke into the boxes on Tuesday last week left a trail of unwanted mail.

So then he started watching the CCTV and discovered he’d been raided twice by three different people in that week.

“There is a mail theft epidemic that your listeners will want to be made aware of,” Steve told us.

“Thieves are currently looking for paywave credit cards and identity theft documents in Elwood.

“Many people don’t actually realise that their mail is being taken.”

Both incidents have been reported to St Kilda police.
