A video showing violent and aggressive acts in Victoria’s busiest emergency department will be shown in the waiting room, in the hope of deterring patients from committing similar behaviour in future.

Nurse unit manager at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Susan Harding, told Ross and John what her emergency department staff have to put up with is unacceptable.

“I think it’s gotten worse but our attitude towards the violence has become unacceptable,” Susan said.

“We would at least have one incident of violence or aggression each shift, every day.

“Drugs have further complicated things because there’s some unpredictability in the behaviours, we have nastier drugs (nowadays).”
