Terry Antonis went from villain to hero within half an hour.

The Melbourne Victory midfielder scored an own goal with the final touch of the A-League semi-final against Sydney FC, levelling the scores at 2-2 and sending the match into extra time.

But things turned in the 117th minute as Antonis – who spent six years at Sydney – scored what proved to be the goal that sent the Victory into the Grand Final.

Antonis told Sunday Sport it was a whirlwind of emotion.

“I felt like I’d let the team down,” he said.

“To score the winner, it was so emotional. I can’t describe it.

“Now we’re in the final, we’re over the moon.”

Antonis also paid tribute to Sydney FC, who have been on a record-breaking run for the better part of two years.
