A man has been attacked and has his car smashed during a violent road rage attack north-west of Melbourne.

Steve tells 3AW Mornings he travelling on the Western Ring road on his way to work when he was attacked.

The 71-year-old says he was driving near the Whitten Bridge, between the newly painted yellow lines.

He tells 3AW’s Tony Jones, ‘I was in the left hand lane when a car came up the inside of me, I think he was confused and used the white lines, I pulled away and gave him a wave and he started screaming.’

The offending driver attempted to have Steve pull over, but he says ‘I wasn’t going to with him like that.’

They eventually stopped at a set of traffic lights, that’s when the man attacked, ‘This guy was MAD,’ says Steve, ‘He punched me twice in the side of the head while the girl was spitting at me through the passenger window.’

The man then punched Steve’s window on the driver’s side causing the glass to smash.

He says he’s lucky he wasn’t seriously injured and will be reporting it to the police today.
