The controversial voluntary assisted dying bill has passed its first test in the upper house of Victoria’s parliament.

It passed 22 to 18 votes.

The vote today means the bill will progress to the commitee stage, where it will likely face amendments.

President of the Legislative Council Bruce Atkinson was the last to vote.

More to come.
