Wandin Bulldogs footballer assaulted during match on Saturday
A suburban footballer is set to undergo surgery this morning following an on-field incident that is reportedly under police investigation.
Wandin Bulldogs ruckman Robbie Ross was left with a shattered cheekbone after he was punched from behind during the clash with Healesville in the Yarra Ranges Football League on Saturday.
He’s told AAP the hit came just 90 seconds into the match.
Robbie didn’t see who did it, but he knew straight away his cheekbone had a hole in it.
He’s expected to undergo surgery this morning to push the cheekbone into place.
Healesville Football Club is believed to be co-operating in the league’s investigation.
