Wangaratta streets in lockdown following reports of gunfire

Two people have found dead at a house in Wangaratta after a siege lasting more than four hours.

Two adults and six children fled the house on Belle Avenue soon after a shot was fired, just before 1pm on Tuesday.

Police then locked down the area around the house as they tried to make contact with a man, believed to be holed up in the home with a woman.

Officers eventually entered the property just after 5pm, finding the pair dead.

Police say they’re not looking for anyone else in relation to the deaths.

Homicide detectives are investigating.
