Warnings ‘critical’ medicine is not getting to Australia

Tom Elliott

Australian lives are undoubtedly being put at risk due to global shortages of essential medical goods, the vice-president of the Australian Medical Association has warned.

Trade route trouble and COVID-19 lockdowns in China has crippled supply.

Dr Chris Moy said it was a huge problem.

He said “critical” medication people needed to live was in short supply.

“Unfortunately, the reliance on overseas production actually exposes us,” he said.

Dr Moy said it highlighted the need for a long-term strategy.
