Warrnambool celebrates opening of new cancer treatment centre

Tom Elliott

Vicki Jellie’s husband Peter died of cancer in 2008.

Unfortunately, the couple spent too many hours of Peter’s final days commuting from Warrnambool to Melbourne for treatment.

After Peter’s death, Ms Jellie began campaigning for Warrnambool to have its own treatment centre to avoid this problem in the future.

And after years of campaigning, fundraising, and cage-rattling, the specialist treatment centre is opening tomorrow.

‘People won’t have to go off to Geelong or Melbourne or Ballarat for their treatment. They can be with their families,’ Ms Jellie told Neil Mitchell.

Neil said her work needs to be admired, honoured, and respected.
