A tense stand-off remains at the University of Melbourne, where a defiant sit-in has entered a seventh day.

The university has warned pro-Palestinian protesters occupying a building on its Parkville campus that it will call police and may expel students if they do not move on.

Wayne Gatt from the Police Association says police are in an unenviable position, saying “no matter what decision they take, they are going to have made the wrong one”.
