‘We absolutely support Israel’: Deputy PM makes government stance clear

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, Richard Marles, says there is “unity” amongst the government in support of Israel’s right to retaliation against Hamas.

Marles says all MPs, including those who did not initially take a stance, are in agreement, following criticism of MP Tony Burke for not condemning Hamas.

“We’ve been completely clear that Hamas stands condemned … and that Israel absolutely has a right to respond and to defend itself,” he told Neil Mitchell.

Marles says the government is discussing how to best provide support and security to the Jewish Australian community and urges Australians to “maintain civility”.
